Jill-AutryJill Autry, OD, RPh

Jill Autry, OD, RPh received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After graduation, she served as a clinical pharmacist at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, N.C., for several years.
Dr. Autry relocated to Texas in 1996 and began training in Optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
In May of 2000, Dr. Autry graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry Summa Cum Laude. She was elected to Beta Sigma Kappa for her outstanding educational accomplishments and inducted into the Gold Key Leadership Society.
Dr. Autry also won numerous awards at the college, including the Texas State Optical Scholarship Award, the Deborah Adler-Grinberg Award for Research, Ciba Leadership Award and Varilux Optometric Scholarship Award.
Dr. Autry lectures around the country on both pharmaceutical and ocular disease topics.
In addition to her professional career, she is married and the proud mother of two boys.

 

Ian-Ben-GaddieIan Ben Gaddie, OD

Ian Ben Gaddie, OD earned his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Optometry. Dr. Gaddie then completed a Residency in Ocular Disease through Northeastern State University College of Optometry at the Triad Eye Medical Clinic and Cataract Institute in Tulsa, OK. Dr. Gaddie completed both his Residency and also a Fellowship in Glaucoma and Laser Therapy at NSU College of Optometry. Currently he is the owner and director of the Gaddie Eye Centers, a multi-location full service practice in Louisville that was started by his father over 40 years ago. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Vice President of the Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS). Dr. Gaddie is currently the chair of the Continuing Education Committee for the American Optometric Association. He is also the President of the Kentucky Optometric Association. Having published extensively in the ophthalmic literature, Dr. Gaddie serves on the editorial boards of Review of Optometry and Optometric Management and Optometry Times. In 2011, Dr. Gaddie was inducted into the Oklahoma Pioneers in Optometry Hall of Fame.

Grand Hotel La Favorita

A unique, modern hotel, which is surrounded by a lush Mediterranean garden. With the hint of the classic Italian style that everybody loves, La Favorita has the perfect location in the heart of Sorrento.

Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria (Upgrade)

Perched on the cliff edge of Sorrento, the Excelsior has a history full of superlatives. Outside are breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples, while inside are 18th century columns, frescoed ceilings and antiques displayed throughout.

Sept 9-13

Hotel Bernini Bristol

Built in the late 1800’s in a palace in the heart of Rome, and recently renovated, the hotel Bernini Bristol offers the glamour of a bygone era along with the most modern amenities. This splendid building, once a historical palace, facing the famous Piazza Barberini and near the Trevi fountain, Villa Borghese and the most important shopping streets. Rooms are enchanting with their period furnishings and tapestries, marked by a refined atmosphere and comfortable elegance.

 

Day 1 – Stop in the small town of Orvieto, located on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tuff. The town is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the almost-vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive stone walls.
Arrive to Borgo Scopeto for check-in,and then attend a Welcome Reception and group dinner.

Day 2 – Sunrise Tuscan Hot Air Balloon ride with lectures to follow. Then it’s off to Castello di Verrazzano for a wine tour and lunch. Immediately following, visit the nearby Castello Vicchiomaggio. Enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Day 3 – Sunrise Tuscan Hot Air Balloon ride with lectures to follow. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Dinner will be as a group at the Scopeto Vineyards.

Day 4 – Transfer to Florence for a half day tour, and after lunch, travel down to Naples. The group will transfer to a ferry to the town of Sorrento. After a quick check-in to the hotel, we will rejoin and have a group dinner.

Day 5 –Enjoy the Amalfi coast from a unique perspective – a private cruise. See the beautiful towns built on the cliffs and the extremely narrow winding road. Lunch at leisure in the town of Amalfi. The group will then coach to the mountain-top town of Ravello, and then transfer back to Sorrento.

Day 6 – After morning lectures, we will take the ferry to the island of Capri. Once there, we will travel in small buses to the town of Ana Capri. Take a leisurely stroll through the narrow streets, dine at your leisure, and make certain to take the chair lift to the top for some amazing views.

Day 7 – Transfer to Pompeii for a guided private tour. After the tour, lunch will be provided at a nearby restaurant. Then it’s on to Rome for an evening reception and group dinner at the rooftop restaurant of the Bernini Bristol.

Day 8 – A walking “Renaissance Tour” in the heart of rome, concluding with lunch at your leisure. Afternoon lectures are at the hotel.

Day 9 – Depart for the Coliseum and Imperial Gardens. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Day 10 – Lectures in the morning, followed by a private guided tour to the Vatican. Upon conclusion of the tour, the group will transfer to a nearby restaurant for our final dinner together.

Day 11 – Morning transfer to the airport for return flight to the U.S.

 

All international flights are booked directly with Tropical CE. We will assist you in booking your US Domestic flights to Newark if need be.

The group will depart out of Newark International Airport (EWR) on the evening of Wednesday September 2, and arrive into Rome – FCO the morning of Thursday September 3.

On the morning of Sunday, September 13, the group will depart Rome – FCO airport and arrive into Newark – EWR in the early afternoon.
